We spoke to Ritesh Deokar, Country Manager, Milestone India to understand their key video management solutions for video surveillance, the kind of industry verticals their solutions are most suitable for, their focus areas for this year now with drastic changes expected to the way organisations work and protect their assets in future and their plans to increase awareness about their solutions in the Indian security market.

1. Please tell us about some of your key video management solutions for video surveillance.

Our video management solutions (VMS) can be largely categorized as per the scale of requirements. We currently have five solutions in our XProtect range that can be implemented for businesses ranging from a small site with just a few cameras, to extremely complex large-scale solutions requiring thousands of cameras. Our XProtect Essential+ solution is a full feature-free version perfect for small businesses with less than eight cameras. This serves basic video surveillance requirements for business owners and employees alike; with assets protection and reactive monitoring being the focus. 

Our XProtect Express+ is designed for single-site businesses with a limited need for live video monitoring, but still gives customers the ability to access their system from anywhere via the XProtect mobile app.  This solution serves as a perfect match for retail shops, parking lots or small office buildings.

For mid-sized businesses, we have solutions like XProtect Professional+ which supports an unrestricted number of cameras, devices and servers. This solution is an ideal choice for institutions such as schools, retail chains, and production plants, where the operators will have a complete overview of the entire installation, as they are equipped with multi-layered maps and full alarm management capabilities.

For comparatively large-scale installations that can cover huge spaces like warehouses and stadiums, we have the XProtect Expert solution that ensures end-to-end protection of video integrity while maximizing hardware performance. Our XProtect Corporate solution is ideal for larger scale or more complex surveillance projects perfect for our Smart Cities mission in India, which already includes security-critical infrastructures like airports, metro rails, railways and similar areas. It is a step-up solution that addresses end-to-end protection of video integrity while maximizing hardware performance.

2. What kind of industry verticals are your solutions most suitable for?

Our platform is suitable for any industry vertical that is looking for more than surveillance solutions but video management in any area of operations, at any scale. 

Being an open platform, our solutions work on a on a use-case approach, i.e., with over 9,000 devices integrated and over 3,500 technology partners, we can integrate software and devices on our platform to solve or meet the unique requirements for surveillance for any given industry. Milestone not only provides software solutions for monitoring, but also in aggregating and analysing the data captured on the platform.

In India, Milestone has provided its solutions to key verticals, broadly the IT, ITeS and the government that covers major surveillance and security projects comprising working with the police, Smart and Safe City projects, public transportations, and airport surveillance. The retail sector in India is also a major business area.

3. What are your focus areas for this year now with drastic changes expected to the way organisations work and protect their assets in future?

Milestone is closely monitoring COVID-19 developments and has taken actions to secure the well-being of our employees, and the business interest of our partners, and customers. We are following guidelines from local authorities and those of the World Health Organization and are taking all necessary precautions.

The vast majority of our teams and employees are now working from home. But as a global software company, we already have experience working remotely. Our employees can continue their work and we expect minimal impact on the support and services we provide to our customers and partners. In this sense, business is expected to carry on as normally as can be, and we are agile enough to adjust where and when necessary.

Milestone is still proactive with our R&D, and we are relentlessly working on enhancing solutions to adapt to changing business conditions. Our focus area remains the same, and we are proactively expanding our business in India and certain SAARC nations, namely Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bhutan.

4. How do you plan to increase awareness about your solutions in the Indian security market?

We have a robust marketing strategy in place to create more awareness about our various solutions in the Indian market.
